Stop a Rock Chip Before It Becomes a Crack
A rock chip caught early is a resin injection that takes a fraction of the time and cost of a new windshield. Left through a Spokane winter, the same chip becomes a crack that runs and the glass has to be replaced. Chip repair is the cheapest auto glass work there is, and it only stays cheap while the damage is small.
Can This Chip Be Repaired?
Three things decide it: the chip is smaller than a quarter, any crack runs shorter than about three inches, and the damage sits outside the driver’s direct line of sight. Meet all three and a repair is the right call. Miss one and we will tell you honestly that you are looking at a replacement instead.
What a Repair Actually Does
Resin is injected into the break and cured, which bonds the laminate back together and stops the damage spreading. It restores strength and makes the chip much less visible. It does not make it invisible — anyone who promises that is overselling it.
Why Waiting Costs More
Temperature swings are what turn a chip into a crack, and the Inland Northwest supplies plenty of them. A defroster on a cold morning puts the inner face under stress while the outer face is still frozen. That is the moment a repairable chip stops being repairable.

FAQs
Quick answers to the questions we hear most. Don’t see yours? Call (509) 892-6699 and ask directly.
How big is too big to repair?
Bigger than a quarter, or a crack longer than about three inches, and repair is no longer the right answer. Damage sitting in the driver’s direct line of sight is also better replaced, because a repair can leave slight distortion behind.
Does a chip repair go through insurance?
Chip repair falls under comprehensive coverage like any other glass claim. Many carriers treat repairs differently from replacements because a repair is far cheaper than the alternative — we will bill your carrier directly and tell you what applies.
Will the chip disappear completely?
No. A good repair restores the strength of the laminate and makes the damage much less noticeable, but a faint mark usually remains. The point is stopping the crack from spreading.
Can you repair a chip at my house?
Yes, chip repair is well suited to mobile service. We cover a 30-mile radius from the Spokane Valley shop and need a level surface with room to work around the vehicle.
