Do I have to use the shop my insurance company sent me to?
No. Washington law protects your right to pick the glass shop, not your insurer’s. WAC 284-30-390 bars insurers from requiring a particular facility, and you can’t be penalized for choosing an independent shop over a national chain. Carriers can recommend a network shop. They cannot require one or deny the claim because you went elsewhere. When you file, name Alpine Auto Glass. We handle the paperwork with your carrier from there.
Will insurance cover this, and what do I pay out of pocket?
Windshield damage falls under comprehensive coverage, so your comprehensive deductible applies to a replacement. Washington has no zero-deductible glass law — if your deductible is $500 and the replacement is $450, you’re paying it either way. Chip repairs are different. Many carriers waive the deductible entirely on a repair because it costs them less than a full replacement. We verify your coverage before any work starts, so you know the number up front.
Can you come to my house or my office?
Yes, mobile service covers most of the Spokane area at no extra charge. We need a level surface and enough clearance to work around the vehicle — a driveway, a parking lot, a work lot all fine. Weather is the one limit. Urethane needs the right temperature and dry conditions to cure properly, so on a cold or wet Spokane day we may move you into the shop rather than risk the bond. Plan on about an hour of cure time before you drive; your tech confirms the exact safe drive-away time on site.
Does my windshield need recalibration after replacement?
If your vehicle has lane departure warning, adaptive cruise, or automatic emergency braking, yes — those systems read the road through a camera mounted to the windshield. Move the glass, and the camera’s aim moves with it. Most vehicles built since roughly 2018 require a static or dynamic recalibration to the manufacturer’s procedure. Skipping it leaves safety systems pointed slightly wrong, which is worse than not having them. We check your VIN before scheduling so calibration is priced into the quote, not sprung on you afterward.
Can this chip be repaired, or does the whole windshield have to go?
Repairable if it’s smaller than a quarter, the crack runs shorter than about three inches, it isn’t in the driver’s direct line of sight, and it hasn’t reached the edge of the glass. Edge damage spreads. So does anything left through a Spokane freeze-thaw cycle — a chip that’s repairable Friday can be a full replacement by Monday.
